Here are some ways to help engage learners with the Endless Key!
Self-Guided
Self-remediation, skill development, curiosity, career exploration and preparation.
Teacher-Led
Centers, flipped learning, project-based learning.
Family-Centered
Shared interests, games & challenges, family goal-setting
Self-guided
Skill development
Students want to develop skills to support their current learning processes or to prepare them effectively for the future.
Self-remediation
Students are interested in improving their academic performance in class and have identified areas for self-remediation
Curiosity
Students have an innate inquisitiveness about a topic and want to learn more for the simple joy of learning.
Career exploration and preparation
Students are driven to explore careers or investigate what they need to know to be well prepared for a future career.
“Outside of school I spend a lot of time researching and learning about both business and real estate investing. This is important to me as I have found that there is a ton of information available online for free and that anything can be learned with a little bit of self discipline.”
Boy/Grade 11/Suburban Community/Wisconsin
“I often use Khan Academy when I don’t understand my Algebra 1-2 class. Doing the questions instead of just writing notes verbatim helps me in ways that a traditional classroom could not.”
Girl/Grade 7/Urban Community/Arizona
Centers
Prompt learners to investigate topics related to the curriculum during independent work
Flipped learning
Assign videos or other resources ahead of time, then use class time to react and discuss
Project-based learning
Learners can work together to research specific topics related to current projects
Teacher-Led
Family-Centered
Games & challenges
Families can complete a scavenger hunt to find resources that help them have fun together
Activity-based
Families can enjoy being active with one another and engaging in activities based on shared interests
Goal-setting
Families can set goals and work toward accomplishing them together (eg, “learn about another culture and cook a meal together”)
“I use online tools often outside of school to get recipes. I often make meals for my family when I am home. I also love to bake, ever since my grandmother died it seems like I slightly took her spot, she is not here to do it or help anymore so I love to keep her traditions going.”
Girl/Grade 8/Rural Community/Pennsylvania
Fun to use and very informational
